Critical Updates

User-Defined Spreads Lifecycle Modification - This Week

To accommodate the extension of 24/7 trading schedules to futures and options markets, effective this Sunday, May 24, the lifecycles for all User-Defined Spreads (UDS) on CME Globex will be modified as follows:

  • All UDS on CME Globex following the Weekly with Extension and Daily with Extension lifecycles will be created with a Last Trade Datetime (LTD) of Saturday at 2:00 a.m. Central time (CT).

    • Currently, these UDS use the close on the nearest Friday as the LTD.

  • All expiring UDS on CME Globex will be removed on Saturday during the Extended Maintenance Window on Saturdays at 2:00 a.m. CT.

    • Currently these spreads are removed after the close on Friday night.

With this change, clients will be able to trade UDS created during the week until Saturday morning instead of end of day Friday, for markets that support 24/7 trading schedules.

Please Note: The UDS LTD cannot exceed the LTD of any of the legs. When the LTD of any leg occurs before the LTD of the UDS, the UDS' LTD will be set equal to the LTD of the nearest leg.

The LTD is captured in the MDP 3.0 Security Definition message in repeating group 864, 865=7 and 1145=LTD.

These changes are currently available for customer testing in New Release. CME Group strongly recommends clients test this new LTD and UDS elimination timings to ensure no impacts.

Important Updates to CME Globex Migration to Google Cloud - Starting June

As we accelerate the transition of CME Globex to Google Cloud, we are providing substantive updates to our roadmap and technical requirements. Clients are strongly encouraged to complete a comprehensive review of these updates to ensure uninterrupted market access and readiness for the upcoming migrations.

Detailed technical documentation has been updated in the Client Systems Wiki.

AI on Google Cloud Testing Program

Google is extending an exclusive invitation to CME Group clients to join a testing program in the Dallas region starting in July 2026. Participants in this program will have the opportunity to evaluate hardware accelerators for inference in low-latency trading. This will allow customers to experience Google's vertically integrated, purpose built AI stack alongside the Ultra Low Latency Solution and Globex. Google Cloud will feature TPU capacity within close proximity to the CME Globex matching engines in the Dallas region. Your participation will inform the optimal infrastructure deployment for the Chicago region. Reservations for hardware accelerators are available now for evaluation starting July 2026.

Availability is limited and first-come, first-serve. Contact your Google Cloud account representative immediately or email exchanges@google.com to reserve your spot and evaluate state of the art machine accelerators with the ULL Solution and Globex.

The Livestock Migration - Dallas Region Q4 2026

To provide clients with a real-world Production environment on Google Cloud prior to the Chicago region launch, Livestock futures and options will migrate to a new Production environment in the private zones of the Dallas region in Q4 2026. In the second half of 2028, Livestock futures and options will migrate to the Production-Chicago environment, in the private Google Cloud Chicago region.

The Livestock Migration - Dallas Region
Key Events and Timing Source Environment Destination Environment Primary Purpose
First Migration Target: Q4 2026 On-premise Production-Aurora environment Production-Dallas environment in the private zones of the Google Cloud Dallas region Enable real-world Production trading on Google Cloud infrastructure.

Note: The Production-Dallas environment will be accessible via all current market access solutions and the new GLink ULL and GLink Premium solutions for Ultra Low Latency Google Compute Engine (ULL GCE) Instances.

Connectivity and Performance

As we move toward a cloud-native future, the way clients connect matters more than ever.

GLink ULL-Dallas and the U4C Bare Metal instances will be the lowest-latency access method available for the environments hosted in the Dallas region.

The Chicago Region Migration - Starting in 2027

CME Globex Production markets will begin migrating to the new Google Cloud Chicago Region in late 2027.

Connectivity and Performance

  • Physical Co-location
    • CME Group is committed to continuing to offer physical co-location market access to the Chicago region.
    • Throughout the migration of markets to Google Cloud, our current GLink Aurora co-location offering will continue as the only physical co-location service.
      • GLink Aurora will continue to offer the most performant access to markets hosted in the Chicago region through the end of the market migrations in 2028.
    • CME Group is currently evaluating the Customer Hardware Co-location (CHC) offering to ensure our infrastructure aligns with evolving market requirements and client demand. A definitive decision regarding the physical co-location site will be announced no later than the end of 2028.
  • Cloud-Native Access
    • After the Globex migration to the Chicago region is complete, GLink ULL-Chicago and the U4C Bare Metal instances in the Chicago region will be competitive with physical co-location (GLink in Aurora and/or CHC) for clients who use traditional compute.

We remain committed to performance transparency. CME Globex application timestamps will continue to provide meaningful latency insight.

Sandbox Launch

  • The Sandbox-Dallas environment opens in June. This is a critical early-access window for clients to validate their cloud journey and connectivity solutions.

Sandbox-Dallas Pilot and Incentive Programs

  • CME Group is offering a Pilot Program for clients who achieve specific technical milestones. The first 50 participants to complete each obligation by the deadline and submit proof will earn a stipend. Details on this program are available in the CME Globex Sandbox-Dallas Pilot Program Agreement.
  • Information on compute pricing for U4C Bare Metal and U4S Virtual Machine instances is available now from Google Cloud’s Field Sales Representatives (FSR). To support the migration and the testing of U4 machines specifically, Google Cloud customers may opt into a Google Cloud incentive program that provides up to $30,000 in credits for U4 compute usage. More information on this program is available from your FSR or contact exchanges@google.com.

Google Cloud ULL Solution Documentation

Google Cloud has released its first wave of ULL solution documentation. It is available now to all clients.

Position Reporting Under CFTC Part 17

On April 30, 2024, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission ("CFTC") approved final rules to amend its Large Trading Reporting Regulations for Futures and Options. The amendments were made to modernize CFTC's Large Trader Reporting process and align it with other reporting structures outlined in CFTC regulations.

Since October 2024, CME Group has offered methods to retrieve its instrument listing containing the Unique Instrument Code (UIC) and other instrument data elements in compliance with the amended rule.

For details regarding submitting the new FIXML Position Message, file management, field validations, and example scenarios, please refer to the information in the CME Group Client Systems Wiki.

CME Globex Connectivity Upgrades and Changes for Listed Derivative Markets - June 27

In response to client feedback and to provide firms with additional time to prepare, CME Group extended the deadline for the previously announced network equipment upgrades.

Starting Saturday, June 27, CME Group plans to replace End-of-Life network equipment that supports listed derivatives connectivity at CME Globex Hubs. Customers will be notified in advance if they are impacted by an equipment upgrade.

CME Globex market data for listed derivatives now regularly exceeds 1Gbps, increasing the risk of packet loss, performance concerns, and quality of service degradations on 1Gbps connections.

Impact on 1Gbps Listed Derivatives Connections

  • Multicast Market Data: Effective June 27, 1Gbps services will no longer support MDP 3.0 multicast market data.
  • Existing 1Gbps Customers with Market Data: Customers with 1Gbps service currently listening to multicast market data are encouraged to upgrade connections to 10Gbps as soon as possible.
  • Existing 1Gbps Customers without Market Data: Unicast services such as iLink, Drop Copy, STP, MQ and others will continue to be supported on 1Gbps connections. Customers with 1Gbps connectivity who are not receiving Market Data will have their service migrated to the new equipment.
  • New 1Gbps Connections: New connections for 1Gbps service do not support access to listed derivatives multicast market data.

Copper Handoffs

  • When the CME Globex Connectivity upgrades are rolled out in 2026, CME Group will no longer support copper handoffs.

Additional details about the CME Globex Connectivity upgrades will be announced in future CME Globex Notices.

Please contact your Global Account Manager for additional information.
