1. What are monthly and weekly Micro Gold options?
Micro Gold options contracts are based on the Micro Gold futures contract and will have monthly and weekly listings.
2. What are the contract symbols for the micro options?
The contract symbols for the monthly and weekly Micro Gold options contracts are:
Micro Gold options: OMG
Micro Gold Weekly Monday options: 1MG – 5MG
Micro Gold Weekly Wednesday options: 1WG – 5WG
Micro Gold Weekly Friday options: 1FG – 5FG
3. What are the contract specifications?
The monthly and weekly Micro Gold options contracts are 10 troy ounces, the same size as the Micro Gold futures and 1/10 the size of the benchmark Gold futures contract. The contracts are priced in U.S. dollars and cents per troy ounce and the minimum price fluctuation is $0.10 per troy ounce. Full contract specifications can be viewed here.
4. What are the listed contract months for the monthly and weekly Micro Gold options?
The Micro Gold options contract is listed for 20 consecutive months. The weekly Micro Gold options contracts are listed for four weeks.
5. What are the strike price increments for Micro Gold options?
Micro Gold options: Minimum 40 strikes at $5 per troy ounce increment above and below the at-the-money strike. Then 10 strikes at $10 per troy ounce increment above and below the highest and lowest $5 increment strike. Then eight strikes at $25 per troy ounce increment above and below the highest and lowest $10 increment strike.
Micro Gold Weekly options: Minimum 40 strikes at $5 per troy ounce increment above and below the at-the-money strike.
6. When do the Micro Gold options expire?
The Micro Gold options contract expires on the fourth last business day of the month preceding the delivery month. The Micro Gold Weekly Monday options expires on the Monday of each week; the Micro Gold Weekly Wednesday options expires on the Wednesday of each week; and the Micro Gold Weekly Friday options expires on the Friday of each week.
7. What are the hours of trading?
CME Globex Pre-open: Sunday 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Central time/CT Monday – Thursday 4:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. CT
CME Globex Open: Sunday 5:00 p.m. – Friday 4:00 p.m. CT with a daily maintenance period from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. CT
CME ClearPort: Sunday 5:00 p.m. - Friday 4:00 p.m. CT with no reporting Monday - Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CT
8. How can I trade Micro Gold options?
Micro Gold options are available to trade on screen via CME Globex and for submission for clearing through CME ClearPort. ClearPort trades can be submitted bilaterally between counterparties or via permissioned brokers. More information about CME ClearPort registration is available on the ClearPort page.
9. How can I get set-up for trading Micro Gold options?
Contact your clearing member or metals@cmegroup.com to get more information on getting set-up to trade the contract on Globex and/or as a block trade on ClearPort.
10. What is the block trade minimum for Micro Gold options?
There are minimum quantity and reporting time requirements for Micro Gold options block trades. The minimum block trade size is 25 contracts, and trades need to be reported by the broker, or by the counterparties for a bilateral trade, within 15 minutes of execution.
11. Who can use Micro Gold Options?
Micro gold options will be accessible to all market participants, and we believe there to be strong value to retail traders already involved with gold ETF options.
12. What are the benefits of using Micro Gold Options?
Micro gold options will offer monthly, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday expirations while existing ETF options only expire on Fridays.
13. Can 10oz Micro Gold Futures (MGC) and 100oz Gold Futures (GC) be offset?
Yes. Offsetting positions in Micro gold futures and full sized 100oz gold futures can be netted down by instructing your FCM to offset open positions.
