The institutionalization of digital assets has accelerated significantly through 2025 and 2026. The successful integration of Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures shows that the cryptocurrency derivatives market has a growing appetite for capital-efficient, centrally cleared exposure to diverse cryptocurrencies.

The introduction of Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures represents a strategic maturation of our Cryptocurrency suite and comes in response to strong client demand for institutional-grade risk management tools across high-liquidity emerging crypto markets. These new contracts broaden the firm’s reach into the high-throughput payment sector and the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Crucially, they allow market participants to diversify beyond core assets like bitcoin and ether.

Available in both larger and Micro sizes to serve institutional and independent investors, these contracts are cash-settled against their respective CME CF Reference Rate: BCHUSD_RR and UNIUSD_RR. These regulated reference rates are calculated using aggregated pricing data provided from major cryptocurrency exchanges.

Like the rest of the suite, Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures are available to trade 24/7 - connecting  market participants to an established venue where trusted oversight, transparent pricing, investor protections and proven infrastructure for supporting high-volume liquidity all combine to empower crypto confidence.

Our Cryptocurrency suite demonstrated and resilient momentum in Q3 2026, with an average daily volume (ADV) of 195.8K contracts and an average daily open interest (ADOI) of 197.4K contracts. This highlights sustained confidence and liquidity during all market phases.

Additionally, by trading alongside our established Cryptocurrency suite, Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures  benefit from potential margin offsets on relative value (long/short) trades across the broader crypto portfolio.

Technology and structure

Token utility

Bitcoin Cash

A payment-focused blockchain created in 2017 as a hard fork of Bitcoin.

Designed to handle higher transaction volumes at lower fees via expanded 32 MB block sizes.

Powered by its native coin Bitcoin Cash as a scalable peer-to-peer digital currency.

Following the May 2026 "Layla" upgrade, the network now also supports programmable money and smart contract capabilities.

Uniswap

A decentralized exchange (DEX) launched in 2018 and built on Ethereum.

Facilitates automated crypto trading through liquidity pools rather than order books, Currently the largest DEX protocol, using an automated market maker (AMM) model to facilitate trustless token swapping.

Uses its native token UNI, which operates as an ERC-20 governance token powering the Uniswap platform.

Holders vote on protocol changes, fee structures, governance and the integration of new liquidity pool mechanisms.

Price performance and the macro landscape

Over the past few years, macroeconomic shifts, ranging from shifting interest rate regimes to the adoption of generic listing standards by the SEC, have profoundly impacted the cryptocurrency space.

Historically, Bitcoin Cash has followed bitcoin’s market cycles and halving schedule. In April 2024, the Bitcoin Cash block reward dropped to 3.125 Bitcoin Cash, creating a supply shock. While Bitcoin Cash surged above $1,500 during the 2021 bull market, it has more recently consolidated as a payment-focused asset. As of mid-2026, Bitcoin Cash is trading in the $195–$210 range, reflecting a macro environment where base-layer payment networks must compete with stablecoins and Layer-2 scaling solutions.

Institutional capital flows have reshaped crypto markets in 2025 and 2026. While U.S. spot bitcoin and ether ETFs have absorbed billions in net inflows, the market is actively expanding into emerging products. On September 18, 2026, Grayscale filed with the SEC to convert its Bitcoin CashTrust into a spot ETF listed on NYSE Arca. While approval remains pending, the filing drove a 12% surge in Bitcoin Cash spot prices, signaling that institutional appetite for legacy Proof-of-Work (PoW) assets may extend beyond bitcoin. Volatility Shares have also filed for a futures based BCH ETF.

Uniswap, conversely, acts as a barometer for the broader DeFi ecosystem. In Q3 2026, UNI experienced a significant breakout, rallying from $6.60 to intraday highs near $8.80. This momentum was in part driven by the SEC’s September 2026 issuance of a temporary framework allowing certain tokenized U.S. stocks to trade via permissioned AMMs. This created a direct regulatory pathway for Uniswap v4 and its permissioned pools, which were launched earlier in July 2026. Bitwise submitted an ETF filing for a Uniswap ETF and Volatility Shares applied for a futures based UNI ETF, both remain pending.

Correlations across the crypto ecosystem

For portfolio managers, understanding how Bitcoin Cash and UNI correlate with the broader market is important:

  • Bitcoin cash vs. the Majors: Bitcoin cash maintains a moderate-to-high correlation with bitcoin, largely due to their shared PoW heritage and identical halving schedules. It also displays stable correlation (ranging around 0.45-0.56) with older altcoins like XRP. However, its smaller market capitalization and thinner liquidity mean its price movements are often more pronounced than bitcoin's.

  • UNI's idiosyncratic profile: As a DeFi governance token, UNI frequently decouples from base-layer platforms like Solana (SOL) or Ethereum (ETH). While ETH provides the underlying settlement layer, UNI trades heavily on protocol-specific catalysts, such as fee switch votes or new version deployments.

Correlations and risk-return profiles

The correlation matrix below measures the relationship between the spot cryptocurrencies daily returns since May 2023 to September 2026.

The scatter plot below illustrates the annualized returns of these cryptocurrencies against their corresponding risk over the 2020 to 2026 period. This provides a framework for assessing tokens against individual risk appetites, demonstrating the historical trade-off between volatility and gains.

Assets positioned toward the top right of the chart indicate a higher risk-reward profile. Bitcoin occupies the lowest position on the risk-reward spectrum. Ether serves as a midpoint, historically providing higher returns than bitcoin, though accompanied by a corresponding increase in price fluctuations. Bitcoin Cash and UNI exhibit distinctly different profiles from this central cluster. SOL and AVAX demonstrate the highest annualized risk of the group, paired with more differing historical returns. SUI is positioned in the lower sector, exhibiting high volatility alongside negative historical returns, reflective of its unique market cycle and more recent emergence.

As market participants increasingly differentiate between protocol-specific value drivers, these risk-return profiles may continue to evolve.

Capital efficiency and risk management

The capital efficiencies inherent in our cash-settled contracts allow for the execution of sophisticated trading strategies:

  1. Relative value trades: Investors can deploy long-short pairs using Bitcoin Cash or Uniswap futures against foundational assets like bitcoin and ether, or high-throughput networks like Solana. This allows traders to isolate specific architectural risks, such as the success of Bitcoin Cash's Layla upgrade or UNI's v4 pools, while hedging out broad market beta.

  2. Hedging spot exposure: Institutional liquidity providers (LPs) on Uniswap can use our UNI futures to hedge the downside risk of their governance token holdings without needing to liquidate their on-chain positions.

  3. No custodial friction: A financially settled futures market removes the cost and hassle of storing the underlying asset. Investors gain exposure to Bitcoin Cash and UNI price action without managing digital wallets, custodians or on-chain security risks.

  4. Arbitrage, basis and price discovery: Centrally cleared, cash-settled futures provide a transparent benchmark for basis trading, capturing the spread between spot market prices and the futures curve. By implementing the robust CME CF Reference Rates for final settlement, these instruments support greater market efficiency across digital assets.

Looking ahead: The 2026/2027 outlook

As the digital asset market matures, participants are increasingly differentiating between protocol-specific value drivers.

For Bitcoin Cash, the late 2026 and 2027 trajectory relies on real-world developer adoption post-Layla upgrade. If the introduction of smart contracts translates into tangible on-chain utility and merchant uptake, Bitcoin Cash could see significant structural repricing.

For Uniswap, the outlook is intertwined with the tokenization of Real World Assets (RWAs) and the uptake of permissioned DeFi infrastructures. The aforementioned SEC framework for tokenized stock trading may help bring volume into Uniswap’s v4 permissioned pools. This shift from retail speculation to compliant, institutional DeFi trading is a major tailwind for UNI.

Bitcoin Cash is a constituent of the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index futures. This contract offers market participants a regulated, capital-efficient way to hedge or gain exposure to a basket of cryptocurrencies through a single, cash-settled trade. As of the September 2026 index rebalance, the index holdings stand at: BTC (74.82%), ETH (11.47%), XRP (5%), SOL (3.86%), HYPE (3.32%), ADA (0.52%), LINK (0.46%), XLM (0.32%) and BCH (0.23%).

Ultimately, the addition of Bitcoin Cash and UNI futures to our time-tested, regulated derivatives marketplace ensures that market participants have the robust, centrally cleared tools they need to navigate this next evolution of the digital asset economy.
