December British Pound futures closed mildly lower on Friday, marking the second down session in the last seven. UK retail sales fell more than expected in September, dropping 0.4% versus expectations for a 0.1% decline. The retail slump added to concerns about consumer spending, but stronger manufacturing and composite PMI data increased expectations for a potential Bank of England rate hike in November. The Bank of England's rate decision could provide support for the British pound if the Federal Reserve leaves rates unchanged next week.
