Livestock markets experienced a universally green session, with the cattle complex leading the way. October Live Cattle futures and September Feeder Cattle futures both closed higher, while October Lean Hogs also posted gains. Wholesale box beef reports indicated a very firm market, with both choice and select cuts seeing increases, following a mixed report from the previous afternoon. Additionally, daily slaughter numbers started the week at 90,000 head, representing a decrease of 10,000 head compared to the same day last year. The latest Commitment of Traders report revealed that funds were net sellers again, shrinking their net long positions in both Live Cattle futures and Feeder Cattle futures to their smallest levels in nearly two years.
