April Lean Hog futures closed moderately lower, breaking key technical support levels heading into a three-day weekend. The contract closed below its 200-day moving average for the first time since early December. Average hog weights saw a notable week-over-week increase to 291.6 pounds, sitting well above the five-year average and suggesting a potential buildup in upfront market supply. Despite a bearish market tone driven by heavier weights, weekly export sales offered a bright spot. Sales reached 53,000 metric tons, marking a 32% increase from the previous week and a 65% jump over the four-week average. However, the strong export data failed to generate significant upward momentum in the trading session.
