April Lean Hog futures faced pressure, trading more than $10 below the February 4th highs and pushing the Relative Strength Index to 39%. Despite the sell-off, the contract managed to close above the 50-day moving average after testing that support level earlier in the session. Market data indicated a decline in open interest of approximately 2,500 contracts, suggesting long liquidation. Fundamental pressure also came from lower pork cutout values and a weekly export sales report of 28,600 metric tons, which was down 18% from the prior week.
