Livestock markets found a late-week spark as Cattle futures closed higher across the board on Friday. April Live Cattle futures rose 2.10 to settle at 236.92, marking a weekly gain of 2.95. March Feeder Cattle futures gained 0.90 to settle at 360.17, up 3.72 for the week. Meanwhile, Lean Hog futures for April slipped slightly by 0.17 to settle at 96.17, though the contract still secured its third consecutive week of gains, finishing 0.87 higher than the previous Friday. Wholesale box beef prices showed mixed results with choice cuts rising 1.25 to 368.70 while select cuts declined 0.43 to 361.30. In the cash market, the five-area average price for live steers was reported at 232.17. The afternoon's Cattle on Feed report showed the on-feed number at 97%, which matched analyst expectations. Placements came in at 95%, approximately 1.5% above the average estimate, while marketings were reported at 102%, half a percentage point above expectations.
