S&P 500 futures initially moved higher to reach 6,940 before backing off to finish near 6,900. Following a 2025 campaign that saw a 17% gain despite a first-quarter decline, the index started the new year with light volatility. Market participants are now looking ahead to a heavy week of labor data, including JOLTS, ADP, and the critical non-farm payrolls report. Additionally, the market will monitor comments from Thomas Barkin for further insight into the economic outlook.
