Livestock markets were uniformly higher in today's trade. October Live Cattle futures were $1.77 higher at 245.42, and November Feeder Cattle futures gained $0.86 to 373.47. December Lean Hog futures found support, settling $1.20 higher at 83.27. The morning Box Beef report was mixed, with Choice cuts $2.93 higher to 372.11, while Select cuts were down $1.18 to 352.28. Yesterday's daily five-area average price was reported at 239.82, which is steady to firm with recent reports. Daily slaughter was very light at just 95,000 head. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins commented on a financial news network that a "pretty big package coming out this week to onshore beef back to America" is expected, which analysts anticipate will provide more details on an initiative to lower beef prices for consumers.
