Live Cattle futures firmed up on strong cash prices, up $5 in the south and $9 in the north, an indication that consumers are willing to pay up for beef. Friday’s profit taking turned into a buying opportunity for traders, with December Live Cattle futures up $3.45. Feeder Cattle futures were mixed, bouncing back after an initial lower start and decline from Friday, with higher boxed beef prices providing some support. November Feeder Cattle futures have a price gap to fill between $3.75.70 and $3.79.10. Lean Hog futures were steady, trading mostly sideways and holding at a two-month low as the current supply is outpacing demand, keeping the downtrend intact. December Lean Hog futures closed nearly unchanged around $82.37.
