December Gold futures hit a new all-time high of $3,899.20 but settled lower. The precious metal is now up for four consecutive sessions and finished September with a gain of over 10.3%. The probability of an October rate cut has rebounded to over 96%, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. Additionally, market uncertainty stemming from a potential government shutdown has boosted demand for gold as a safe haven asset.
