At-a-Glance

Today’s Top Highlights

After seeing little movement across markets yesterday, there was more of a “risk-on” feel today as the equity indices, precious metals, Crypto futures, and Crude Oil all moved higher today with conviction. The big earnings reports this week are being released tomorrow looking at Tesla and Alphabet, which will both be released after the close and could set up Thursday to have significant volatility. Looking at the action today, equity markets saw a nice boost higher with the Nasdaq leading the charge trading up about 1.7% as prices are trying to recover from the breakdown below the 50-day moving average last week. That level, which was a strong “floor” in the market going back to April, is now acting as a near term “ceiling” and traders will look for a close above to add momentum to the upside.

The leaders of the day were the precious metals, which are also looking for upside momentum after seeing strong selling pressure for the last few weeks. Silver led the day trading up about 3.5% while Gold saw gains of about 1.8%. Along with that, Bitcoin futures have quietly crept higher again today trading up over 2%, and are now seeing some congestion right near the 50-day exponential moving average. Prices have not traded above this level since May of this year and traders are looking to see if a catalyst can break through and add momentum to this market that has been in a downtrend since reaching all time highs last year.

Neither futures trading nor swaps trading are suitable for all investors, and each involves the risk of loss. Due to the leveraged nature of futures trading and swaps trading, it is possible to lose more than the amount deposited in a position. Therefore, traders should not deposit more funds than they can afford to lose without negatively affecting their lifestyles. A trader cannot expect to profit on each trade, and should only devote a small amount of their available funds to each trade. All references to options refer to options on futures.
