At-a-Glance

Today’s Top Highlights

Many markets are seeing a strong boost in prices today, specifically looking at the equity indices, precious metals, and crypto futures. The Russell led the equity indices higher trading up slightly over 1% while the S&P and Nasdaq saw about 0.5% gains on the day. Both the S&P and Nasdaq have traded back up towards their own 200-day moving average and have seen prices fail and return lower from that point, and that is the exact price action we saw again in today’s session. With that, the Russell remains higher than both other markets and continues to see outsized moves relative to the S&P and Nasdaq.

Gold and SIlver were able to see sharp rises today with Gold trading up near 2.7% and Silver trading higher by over 3.5%. Gold has seen a nice recovery from an "oversold" level seen earlier this week and has been trading more as a “risk on” market for the last few weeks. Crypto futures saw strength as well with Bitcoin futures trading higher by over 2% as these markets have been chopping around near lower levels after the recent selloff down to near $70,000.

Ask Me Anything:

“What types of markets or contracts should I be looking at or trading as a beginner in the futures markets”

As a beginner, you can start by focusing on Micro E-mini contracts, which are 1/10th the size of standard futures and allow you to learn market mechanics with significantly lower financial risk. These contracts, available for major indices like the S&P 500 and commodities like WTI Crude Oil, provide the same price action as their larger counterparts but with much smaller tick values, making them the ideal environment for practicing disciplined risk management.

Neither futures trading nor swaps trading are suitable for all investors, and each involves the risk of loss. Due to the leveraged nature of futures trading and swaps trading, it is possible to lose more than the amount deposited in a position. Therefore, traders should not deposit more funds than they can afford to lose without negatively affecting their lifestyles. A trader cannot expect to profit on each trade, and should only devote a small amount of their available funds to each trade. All references to options refer to options on futures.
