At-a-Glance
Key Takeaways with Craig
We compiled the weekly summary of net price and volatility changes a bit earlier today, but, as of early afternoon trading, here is how we stack up as we head into the last full week before the US Presidential elections on November 5th. As usual, we used QuikStrike and CVOL data to compile the chart below.
US Equities traded mixed and implied volatility in options with 30 days until expiry traded higher, but not dramatically. A look at the vol curve in the E-mini Nasdaq-100 (below the chart), however, shows the much elevated levels of vol in the options that expire in the days immediately following the election.
WTI Crude Oil prices were higher by about 4% and CVOL in the options traded higher as well.
As we talked about this week, CME precious metals continue to trade higher, with Gold up by about 1% on the week. CVOL in those options rose as well.
The Treasury Yield curve continues to reflect higher interest rates after the FOMC 50 basis point cut to its target rate at the last meeting.
Nat Gas prices and CVOL in the options traded higher this week.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend and we’ll be back next week to report on CME markets in the lead-up to the US elections.

Neither futures trading nor swaps trading are suitable for all investors, and each involves the risk of loss. Due to the leveraged nature of futures trading and swaps trading, it is possible to lose more than the amount deposited in a position. Therefore, traders should not deposit more funds than they can afford to lose without negatively affecting their lifestyles. A trader cannot expect to profit on each trade, and should only devote a small amount of their available funds to each trade. All references to options refer to options on futures.
