Net buys of Treasury bonds and notes at $58.2 billion were positive for U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts as were net purchases of government agencies at $9.7 billion and corporate bonds at $27.2 billion. On the negative side were net sales of U.S. equities of $16.2 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts increased their holdings by $3.8 billion to $1,151.4 billion in July from $1,147.6 billion in June. UK holdings rose by $41.3 billion to $899.3 billion versus $858.0 billion in June. Chinese accounts decreased their holdings by $25.7 billion to $730.7 billion in July from $756.4 billion in June.
