Highlights

Stocks ended nearly unchanged Monday after holding narrow ranges with markets not reacting to the meeting of President Trump, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders. The Dow Jones industrial average eased 0.1 percent while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were flat. US bond yields, the dollar, and oil prices rose.

News was limited from the Trump-Zelensky meeting but seemed somewhat hopeful as Trump appeared to promise security guarantees for Ukraine and promoted the idea of a trilateral meeting involving Russia, the US and Ukraine. Markets did not react to a weaker than expected homebuilders sentiment report. Investors are on hold awaiting news later in the week including Federal Reserve meeting minutes due on Wednesday and Fed Chair Jerome Powell's speech at Jackson Hole on Friday.

Sectors were mixed industrials, consumer staples and consumer discretionary outperforming. Lagging were energy, materials, communications services and real estate.
