Highlights

Investors are focused on trade talks and appear positive about the outlook. US-Canada talks presumably are back on track after Canada chickened out on its digital services tax aimed at US firms after President Trump threatened to pull out of negotiations. The EU and the US are rushing to patch together some kind of an agreement before July 9, and the mood music suggests they will.

Meanwhile, the Senate continues its marathon effort to approve the president's tax and spending bill with the aim of sending it back to the House for approval ahead of the president's deadline of Friday. It is not clear whether it has enough support to pass the Senate. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on Sunday said the Senate version of the bill would add at least $3.3 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. Big institutional investors and the ratings agencies are watching closely.
