Highlights

On another relatively quiet day for scheduled economic reports on Tuesday, markets are expected to key on whether the selloff in US Treasuries and the dollar continues, and the knock-on effects in other asset classes like stocks and commodities which are traditionally considered risk assets. Markets are watching to see if President Trump or his aides continue to attack Fed Chair Jerome Powell, and whether there are any signs of progress in trade talks that might ease worries about tariffs and the impact of tariffs on inflation and business activity. Concerns about Trump's policies and his attacks on the Fed's independence have prompted some market participants to shun US assets.

Several Federal Reserve officials are scheduled to make public appearances. Of these, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari's moderated question-and-answer session before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Summit at 1:40 PM ET looks like the most likely to produce market-sensitive comments.

On the topic of US Treasury market sentiment, the day's auction of 2-year notes at 1 pm ET will attract greater than usual interest as a test of investor appetite for Treasuries in the current environment. The Treasury is also scheduled to sell 5-year and 7-year notes on Wednesday and Thursday.
