Highlights

All eyes this week are on President Trump's announcement of reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday, what he calls Liberation Day, when he strikes back at all countries that have treated US exporters unfairly, as he sees it.

Trump has variously promised sweeping new tariffs on pretty much all US trading partners. These appear likely to be in addition to other tariffs already announced, not to mention whatever other tariffs the president chooses and announces, whenever. As for Wednesday's announcement, it's unclear when it will come, and it's possible it will be less dramatic than feared, given Trump's comments over the last week suggesting a more lenient stance. On the other hand, The Washington Post reported on Saturday the president was pressing his aides to go big, possibly to include a universal tariff on all imports. Markets, businesses and consumers are not dealing well with the uncertainty.
