Net sales of Treasury bonds and notes at $13.3 billion were negative for U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts as were net sales of U.S. equities of $11.0 billion. On the positive side were net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds at $24.1 billion, net purchases of government agency bonds of $0.5 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts increased their holdings by $19.5 billion to $1,079.3 billion in January from $1,059.8 billion in December and from $1,087.1 billion in November. Chinese accounts increased their holdings by $1.8 billion to $760.8 billion in January from $759.0 billion and $768.6 billion in November.
