Highlights

The main event for global markets Monday is the inauguration of President-elect Trump for a second term. Investors are awaiting a blizzard of executive orders to implement a range of policies Trump has pledged to take effect on day one of the new administration. Markets are keenest to know Trump's plans for import tariffs and deportations.

On a quiet news day for the Martin Luther King holiday, no US government economic reports are scheduled. Federal Reserve speakers have entered a blackout period ahead of the FOMC meeting set for Jan. 28-29.

Elsewhere, China's PBOC will announce its monthly loan prime rate fixing, with markets expecting no change. Japan will issue its machinery orders report.

In Europe, German PPI figures and Swiss producer and import price figures are due.

From Canada, the Bank of Canada Business Outlook Survey and Survey of Consumer Expectations are scheduled.
