Highlights
In the US, the main event will be the monthly ISM manufacturing index. Expectations call for a nearly flat reading at 48.5 for December versus 48.4 in November. That would suggest ongoing contraction in the sector even if purchasers are more optimistic about the outlook for 2025.
The other main event will be an appearance by Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin, one of the first opportunities to hear from a Fed policy-maker since the December policy meeting. Barkin was a voting member of the FOMC in 2024.
In other data, US vehicle sales are due for release, plus weekly EIA natural gas stocks, and the weekly Baker Hughes oil rig count.
