Highlights

Lots of focus on whether the US government will be in a partial shutdown on Monday, depending on how things go over the weekend with last-minute efforts on Capitol Hill to strike a deal to keep the government running. A shutdown would mean economic reports issued by agencies at the Commerce and Labor Department, for example, would not be released, as these are not considered essential activities.

Economic news Monday in Asia will feature Singapore CPI and Taiwan industrial production; in Europe, the final revision of UK Q3 GDP is due.

In North America, Canada monthly GDP and Canada industrial product prices will be followed by the Chicago Fed's US national activity index and US consumer confidence index from the Conference Board. Fortunately, neither of the US reports is issued by the US government.

A busy Monday for US Treasury debt issuance includes weekly 3- and 6-month bills, 52-week bills, and a $69 billion 2-year note auction. A Treasury spokesman confirmed that Treasury auctions would proceed even if there is a shutdown.
