Net purchases of Treasury bonds and notes at $77.0 billion were positive for U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts, plus net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds at $43.4 billion, net purchases of government agency bonds of $21.6 billion and net purchases of U.S. equities by foreign accounts of $121.2 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts decreased their holdings by $5.9 billion to $1,123,3 billion in September from $1,129,2 billion in August and versus $1,115,7 billion in July. Chinese accounts decreased their holdings by $2.6 billion to $772.0 billion in September from $774.6 billion in August and from $776.5 billion in July.
