Highlights

Stocks seesawed to end mostly higher Monday with momentum continuing from last week's recovery. The Dow Jones industrial average and the Nasdaq both rose 0.4 percent while the S&P 500 gained 0.3 percent. Bond yields and oil prices fell while the dollar rose.

Stocks got a lift from big gains in Tesla after China's said it could roll out its autonomous driving vehicles. Apple advanced after an upgrade at Bernstein. Boeing was a winner after raising $10 billion in a bond sale to shore up its balance sheet. Meanwhile, weakness in several megacaps limited the gains, with Alphabet, Meta, and Microsoft among the decliners.

Equities retreated in the afternoon after news from the U.S. Treasury that it would raise its borrowing requirement for the second quarter by $43 billion from its previous projection. The major indexes recovered into the close to end in positive territory.

Among sectors, best were consumer discretionary, real estate, materials and industrials, while lagging were financials and communications services.
