Highlights
Net purchases of Treasury bonds and notes at $88.8 billion led the rise in U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts, plus net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds, at $52.7 billion and government agency bonds, at $3.8 billion. These were marginally augmented by net purchases of U.S. equities by foreign accounts of $0.4 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts raised their holdings by $16.4 billion to $1,167.9 billion in February from $1,151.5 billion in January. Chinese accounts cut holdings by $22.7 billion to $775.0 billion in February from $797.7 billion in January.
