Highlights
Net purchases of Treasury bonds and notes at $22.1 billion contributed to the rise in U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts, plus net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds, at $24.7 billion and government agency bonds, at $14.0 billion. These purchases were augmented by net purchases of U.S. equities by foreign accounts of $0.5 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts raised their holdings to $1,116.2. billion in August from $1,112.5 billion in June. Chinese accounts cut holdings to $805.4 billion in August from $821.8 billion in July.
