Highlights
Net purchases of Treasury bonds and notes, at a tiny $0.2 billion, barely contributed to the rise in U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts. Bigger were net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds, at $8.3 billion and government agency bonds, at $8.1 billion. These purchases were augmented by net purchases of U.S. equities by foreign accounts of $28.8 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts raised their holdings by $19.9 billion to $1,125.5 billion in July from $1,105.6 billion in June. Chinese accounts cut holdings by $13.6 billion to $821.8 billion in July from $835.4 billion in June.
