Highlights

The focus for this week is on comments from central bankers who will gather with other policymakers, academics and economists at the Kansas City Fed's annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, from Aug. 24 to 26. Participants will discuss structural shifts in the global economy this year.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak on the economic outlook at the event, starting at 10:05 a.m. EDT (1405 GMT) on Friday.

The North American data calendar is thin on Monday.

In Germany, producer costs are expected to continue moderating after last year's spike, led by falling energy prices. The producer price index is forecast to post a 0.1 percent drop on the month in July after edging up 0.1 percent in June and rising 1.0 percent in May. From a year earlier, the PPI has cooled for nine consecutive months and is seen falling in July to minus 4.5 percent from minus 0.3 percent.

Hong Kong's consumer inflation is forecast at 1.9 percent in July, unchanged from June, when the annual rate eased slightly from 2.0 percent in May and 2.1 percent in April. The government expects overall inflation to stay moderate in the near term.
