Highlights
Net purchases of Treasury bonds and notes, at $92.2 billion contributed to the rise in U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts, plus net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds, at $9.9 billion and government agency bonds, at $10.9 billion. These purchases were offset somewhat by net sales of U.S. equities by foreign accounts of $15.3 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts increased holdings by $39.3 billion to bring their holdings to $1,127.2 trillion in March. Chinese accounts reduced holdings by $400 million, bringing their total to $868.9 billion.
