Highlights
Net purchases of Treasury bonds and notes, at $51.0 billion led the rise in U.S. long-term holdings by foreign accounts, plus net purchases of U.S. corporate bonds, at $2.4 billion and government agency bonds, at $5.9 billion. Somewhat offsetting the purchases were net sales by foreign accounts of U.S. equities at $27.6 billion.
Among top foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries (long and short-term), Japanese accounts increased holdings by $28.1 billion to bring their holdings to $1.104.4 trillion in January while Chinese accounts reduced their holdings by $7.7 billion, bringing their holdings to $859.4 billion.
