Julie Armstrong – CME Group Global Head of Market Technology Services

Julie Armstrong joined CME Group in February 2011 and serves as Executive Director, Market Technology Services.  She is responsible for sales and product development efforts globally across all customer segments for the company’s co-location, software and connectivity businesses.   In her first year at CME Group, she contributed to the launch of the CME Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) and held a board seat with the organization for three years.  Armstrong serves on the Board of Chart IQ, a Fintech company based in Charlottesville, VA.  She is also a member of the Illinois Technology Association (ITA). 

Prior to joining CME Group, Armstrong served as V.P. of Sales and Head of U.S. Implementation at RealTick, LLC, an execution management system.  She was responsible for a team selling to both the buy-side and sell-side users of the system, as well as managing the group that performed the technical configuration behind user setups. Prior to running sales for the Chicago office, Armstrong was the global relationship manager for the Lehman Brothers global equity team during their ownership of RealTick from 2005 until 2008.  Her background also includes corporate cash management at Precision Castparts, LLC. 

Armstrong holds a bachelor’s degree in foreign language and international economics with a minor in business from the University of Kentucky.  

 

Peter Keavey – Managing Director, Global Head of Energy

Pete serves as Managing Director, Global Head of Energy Products at CME Group. He is responsible for managing CME Group’s existing suite of energy products, including crude oil, refined products, natural gas, power, natural gas liquids, coal and renewables. In his current role, Keavey also works closely with customers to lead development and execution of new risk management tools for the energy industry.

Keavey has more than 27 years of experience in the futures and options industry, including 15 years as a trader of physical and financial Energy products across the natural gas and crude oil and refined product markets.

Prior to joining CME Group in 2013, Keavey was a Portfolio Manager at Graham Capital Management  focusing on energy markets. He served as Managing Director and Head of Energy Trading at Scotia Capital from 2008-2011, and has held various commodity trading  positions for Enron Corporation, Societe Generale and Lehman Brothers.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business.

Jim Duncan - Director - Market Research for ConocoPhillips Gas & Power

He is responsible for developing customized financial market strategies for both ConocoPhillips and its customers. Using mathematical modeling to simulate financial markets as well as extensive market research and analysis, his team continually evaluates all facets of the market to optimize asset values.

In addition to his financial acumen in reading and predicting shifts in the market, Dr. Duncan, a Marine, has a broad background in science and the arts. He spent three years as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the university level. Dr. Duncan was also a manager in the petrochemical and additives industries where he had leadership positions in R&D, marketing, and business development.

A popular speaker within the natural gas industry, Dr. Duncan has spoken to both producers and end-users on topics such as “Strategies of Success for Price Risk”, “Crisis Price Management", and "Price Outlook and Natural Gas Fundamentals". He is a featured speaker at numerous conferences and symposiums throughout North America.

Dr. Duncan is a member of the International Association of Energy Economists. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Millsap College in Jackson, Ms. and Ph. D. in Chemistry from University of Houston.

Married with three children, Dr. Duncan enjoys swing and western dance and flying "any kind" of airplane. Classically trained in opera during college, he has also had a successful career in broadcast, performance voice, recording, and conducting.

 

 

Erik Norland – CME Group Senior Economist

Erik Norland is Executive Director and Senior Economist of CME Group. He is responsible for generating economic analysis on global financial markets by identifying emerging trends, evaluating economic factors and forecasting their impact on CME Group and the company’s business strategy, and upon those who trade in its various markets. He is also one of CME Group’s spokespeople on global economic, financial and geopolitical conditions.

Prior to joining CME Group, Norland gained more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry working for investment banks and hedge funds both in the United States and in France. He most recently served in sales and research at BEAM Bayesian Efficient Asset Management LLC, and previously as Director of Research at EQA Partners, both global macro hedge funds. He also worked for IXIS Corporate & Investment Bank in Paris (now called Natixis), covering central banks and supranationals for the fixed income sales business, and also worked as a market economist and strategist. He began his career at Bankers Trust, Global Investment Management in New York working with the tactical asset allocation group.

Norland holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an M.A.in statistics from Columbia University. He is also a CFA Charterholder.
