It is important to understand how CME Group expires options contracts you trade. Expiration processes differ from product to product.
A Gold weekly option exercises to the closest February, April, June, August, October or December Gold futures contract. If the expiration day is after the expiry of the associated monthly option for those months, it will exercise into in the second closest February, April, June, August, October or December Gold futures contract.
For example, May weeks 1, 2 and 3 expire into June futures. But the monthly option expires June 24. This means week 4 May options expire after the associated reference month options and week 4 May options will move to the next active futures contract month, August.
