| One North End Avenue: Notice of Complete Power Shut Down of Building on Saturday, March 24, 2007 |
|---|
| The Exchange has scheduled a complete power shut down of the entire building at One North End Avenue, for Saturday, March 24, 2007. This particular event involves the Pull the Plug test, which is done every year and a primary injection test on the U.P.S circuit breakers, which is done every 3 years and which warrants a shutdown of the U.P.S system. This power shut down will involve all systems shutting down for a minimum of 12 hours. By checking to confirm that the relevant systems are working properly and as designed, this testing is of benefit not only to the Exchange but also to all building users as well.
The Pull the Plug test simulates a blackout of the building in order to check whether the U.P.S system keeps the critical areas operating on battery power until the generators turn on, and also to check whether all of the automatic transfer switches transfer to generator power and the generators can handle the load of the building. During the testing, Exchange staff will put the generator system through different tests to ensure that the system is still operating as designed. Primary injection testing is performed on the U.P.S circuit breakers to check the trip mechanisms of the breaker at different amperages so as to ensure that the breakers are operating properly and that all trip settings are still operating as per design. If a trip setting drifts out of calibration, it could cause a breaker to trip prematurely and result in loss of power to critical equipment. All mechanical functions of the breakers are also checked to ensure proper operation. The power shut down will affect all computer, network and telecom systems located within the One North End Avenue building from 10:00 AM EST to 10:00 PM EST. All tenants and building users are requested to save all open files and to power down your computers at the end of the day on Friday, March 23, 2007. You will be notified upon completion of the maintenance, at which time you will need to be prepared to recover and test your systems power restoration. We suggest that all member firms and tenants verify connectivity and functionality of all systems at the conclusion of the test on Saturday, March 24, 2007 after 10:00 PM EST. There will be NYMEX technology staff onsite on Saturday evening, March 24, 2007 from 6:00 PM EST to 12:00 AM EST, Sunday morning; Exchange staff will be available to assist should any residual issues be identified. For those users of electronic trading systems offering trading of Exchange products, please ensure sure that all systems are up and running for the production open on Sunday, March 25, 2007, the commencement of trade date Monday, March 26, 2007. A conference bridge will open on Saturday, March 24, 2007 from 6:00 PM EST to 12:00 AM EST for any residual issues or questions member firms and tenants may have. The conference bridge number will be distributed separately. The Exchange also invites all member firms and tenants to visit the building on Sunday, March 25, 2007 to verify that all of their computer, network and telecom systems are operational.
