COMEX Broker Assistant (CBA) Program
A program is being rolled out for the floor brokerage community on the COMEX floor. Its goal is to provide assistance to floor members as side by side trading is rolled out. The CBA program will provide brokers the ability to handle customer orders via open outcry and electronically. The program will also provide locals with concurrent access to the cash market and the physical market. The Metals Transition Committee will review, the utility of the program as market conditions develop to optimize its use.

Registration Requirements: CBAs must have completed the Floor Broker or Clerk Training Course. The CBA will be required to either be: NFA Registered as a Floor Broker or an Associated Person; or SRO Sanctioned, i.e., approved by NYMEX. More specifically, NFA registered CBAs will be permitted to use their discretion to direct an order to a floor broker or to the screen; SRO Sanctioned NBAs will have no discretion, i.e,, they will only be permitted to perform order entry functions.

Approval Process: The Member/Member Firm as well as the CBA applicant must submit the attached application to the Membership Department by 3:00PM on Friday, December 1, 2006 in order to be considered for activation on Monday, December 4, 2006. The Membership Dept. will continue to accept applications after the deadline with approvals to be granted on a rolling basis. Please note, only one CBA is permitted per brokerage operation and a Member is responsible for the actions of the CBA.

Program Terms and Conditions:
  • CBA may have tablet in addition to the Member having tablet.


  • CBA must have separate log on—cannot use same log on and sender sub ID as Member.


  • Must be located on the COMEX Trading Floor.


  • Can execute type 2, 3 and 4 business as approved by the Member provided an order ticket is created.


  • Can wear headset and hold tablet.


  • Can be on regular phone (Land Line) and hold tablet.


  • Can execute with discretion ONLY if appropriately registered with the NFA (AP, Floor Broker).


  • Prohibited from trading for themselves or making trading decisions for the Member's Personal account.


  • $250 application fee.

    DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: Must be submitted to the Membership Department by 3:00PM on Friday December 1, 2006.
