Gasoline Update
The Exchange will not list additional months in its New York Harbor Gasoline Contract (HU) beyond January 2007, due to the nationwide phase-out of MTBE which is the oxygen additive in Reformulated Gasoline (RFG). In addition, NYMEX will continue to list additional months in its new gasoline contract for New York Harbor RBOB Futures (RB). The Exchange will maintain listing the RBOB Contract for 12 months forward on a rolling basis. The RBOB gasoline contract features physical delivery of gasoline blendstock, called RBOB, for blending with 10% Denatured Fuel Ethanol.

Beginning effective May 5, 2006, for deliveries against the May HU Gasoline Contract, the minimum 2% oxygen requirement for MTBE in Reformulated Gasoline (RFG) will be eliminated, in compliance with Federal EPA standards. Thereafter, there will be no mandatory requirement for MTBE as an oxygen additive in RFG, and the use of MTBE will become optional.
