| Notice of Decommissioning of Services and Firm-Owned WiFi Devices |
|---|
| As of July 7th 2006, the legacy 802.11B wireless network hardware supporting the NYMEX and COMEX trading floors will be decommissioned and taken out of service. Please be aware that anyone using a laptop, tablet, or other wireless handheld device on the NYMEX wireless network prior to January 2006, must contact the NYMEX the Network Engineering Department to arrange for a migration from the legacy wireless network to the new network before this date. Failure to do so will result in the inability to communicate wirelessly from both the NYMEX and COMEX trading floors.
Additionally, member firms had previously been permitted to submit an application to use their own 802.11A wireless access point on the trading floor. This was temporarily permitted as an interim step, pending the upgrade of the NYMEX owned and managed wireless network. With the successful launch of Side by Side trading on the new wireless network, these temporary permits have officially been terminated. Under no circumstances will firm owned WiFi access points be permitted on the trading floors. These devices must be physically removed from the trading floor immediately. Inadvertently powering on one of these units will adversely impact wireless communications on the floors. In the event that a rogue access point is detected on the trading floor, automated alerts will notify NYMEX personnel with the location of the device at which time the equipment will be powered down and removed from the floor. |
