Please be advised that the following new policy is now in effect.
NYMEX WIRELESS BANDWIDTH ALLOCATION POLICY
In order to ensure that the Exchange's wireless network operates with fairness, integrity and efficiency, the Exchange will be implementing certain bandwidth allocations per wireless unit.
- Specifically, until further notice the Exchange will use reasonable efforts to provide each wireless unit a minimum bandwidth allocation of 256kbps.
- It also may be possible to receive bandwidth above this level if the data are transmitted in extremely brief bursts; until further notice, the "burstable" data could be transmitted up to 512kbps so long as bandwidth is available for that unit in light of its access point in the NYMEX network.
- As a note, the Exchange does not control the bandwidth available through the user's independent services provider (ISV), which may further affect available bandwidth.
- Handheld users thus need to consider how their receipt of data from a number of markets could affect their utilization of their bandwidth.
- The basic bandwidth allocation will allow a handheld user to trade on Globex®, but it is not intended or designed to support a user receiving market data feeds from a great number of markets.
- In other words, signing up for a significant number of market data feeds likely would fully utilize a user's allocated bandwidth, resulting in data either possibly being retransmitted or dropped.
- In order to avoid this situation, users may wish to consider limiting the number of markets they access from their units, for example, deciding to forego receiving data feeds from far flung currency markets in order to focus upon their core energy trading activities.
