Notification of New Password Security and Authentication Procedures for Use of NYMEX ClearPort(sm) Clearing Services
Please be advised that the Exchange is implementing a new version of the software utilized for NYMEX ClearPortsm Clearing (CPC). CPC is a service available to registered users by which swap or physical transactions in certain commodities executed off-exchange (i.e., OTC) can be submitted to the Exchange for clearing via an exchange of futures for swaps or via an exchange of futures for physical, as applicable. This new CPC version maintains all existing functionality but also supports more stringent security procedures in accessing the system.

In connection with the new version of CPC, the Exchange accordingly is implementing the new password policies listed below, which will become effective with the launch of the new CPC version.

In other words, a registered CPC user will need to comply with the following new security policies by trade date Friday, December 3, 2004, which commences at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2004.

Password Requirements:
  1. Passwords must be a minimum of eight (8) characters.

  2. Passwords must contain three out of the following four character types: upper-case letter, lower-case letter, number, and symbol.

  3. Passwords will expire after 45 days and must be changed.

  4. A user's account will be locked after three failed log-in attempts. You must call the NYMEX Customer Service Center in order to have the account reset. You will be required to change your password immediately thereafter upon your initial log-in.
Suggestions for stronger passwords:
  1. Do not simply use words found in the dictionary.

  2. Do create a phonetic sentence using a familiar phrase, changing some of the characters to meet the last requirement.

  3. Do use the first letter of each word in a familiar phrase that you can remember. Adjust to meet the requirements in item 2.

  4. Do intentionally misspell words.

  5. Do separate two or more words with special characters.

  6. Finally, never create a password that is the same as your username/ID.
