Notice No. 219
05/15/2003
Prohibition on Unauthorized Use of Electronic Media (Including Certain Cell Phones) on the Trading Floors
The Exchange's longstanding policy prohibits use of any media to record any images, including still pictures and/or video, of the Exchange and/or Exchange trading floors, with the sole limited exception where such use is specifically and expressly authorized by the Exchange. This policy applies to any form or type of electronic media or communications equipment and is not limited to still cameras or camcorders. Furthermore, all such requests must be coordinated through the Corporate Communications Department.

The Floor Committee currently permits use of cell phones on Exchange trading floors. However, the Exchange has never authorized or permitted use of any cell phone that permits images to be recorded and transmitted. In addition to the prohibition on cameras and video recorders, the Exchange also strictly prohibits use of any cell phone to transmit any image or activity on the trading floor, and any such use would be a serious violation of Exchange policy. If such illegal use is suspected, Exchange personnel may undertake a review, including reviewing any system memory or other recorded information on the suspect equipment.

The Exchange will take all appropriate measures to sanction and deter any such use; violation of this policy could result in fines, suspensions, deletion of recorded information and even immediate confiscation of the cell phone or other offending media. Floor Members, clerks or Exchange personnel who own such cell phones may want to consider storing them away from the trading floor, such as in a locker or an upstairs office.
