Business Assistance to the Membership
In order to keep members updated on possible avenues of financial assistance, we have described below the following incentive program for downtown residents. The Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Corp., a subsidiary of the Empire State Development Corp. is offering as much as $287M in two year grants and one-time payments to anyone who lives downtown or who move there.

The Grants are designed to pay 30% of monthly rent, mortgage or maintenance payments if you commit to living in the area for two years.

The plan is as follows:

For those living in the impact zone to receive 30% of the for the next two years up to $12,000 but no less than $4,000. Households with children under 18 at the time of the grant application could get a family bonus of $1,500. And anyone living in the zone on September 11, would receive a $1,000 payment. The impact zone includes households south of Chambers St. and west of Nassau and Broad Sts.

For those people living south of Canal and Rutgers Sts., but outside the immediate impact zone would be eligible to receive 30% of their rent, mortgage or maintenance payments for the next two years. Their grant would total no less than $2,000 but would be capped at $6,000. Households with children under 18 at the time of the grant application could get a family bonus of $750. And anyone living their on September 11, would receive a $1,000 payment.

For those who lived south of Delancey or Kenmare Sts. east of Lafayette St. and North of Canal St. on September 11, would receive a one-time $1,000 payment. To get the money, a person wouldn't have to live at the same address but must still live in one of the grant-eligible neighborhoods. No one will receive grants in excess of their payments.

The grants are expected to be distributed sometime in the summer.
