As previously announced, CME is eliminating CME Market Data API (MD API), the legacy market data vehicle, on July 1, 2006.

Launched in July 2005, the CME Market Data Platform is a dual-feed multicast market data dissemination system. The CME Market Data Platform's superior scalability options, more efficient delivery of market data messages and the elimination of middleware requirement results in bandwidth savings of greater than 50 percent compared to CME MD API. Many customers currently in production on CME Market Data Platform have reported a reduction in latency at peak message rates and an average latency reduction of 3 to 10 milliseconds over CME MD API.

The implementation of the CME Market Data Platform minimizes the customer effort to migrate from CME MD API, since the RLC and ITC2 formats are not changing at this time. In addition, existing CME MD API customers are not required to complete a formal certification. However, coordination between multiple systems using a single market data feed is required, so planning ahead is highly recommended.
