The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc., in conjunction with the Futures Industry Association Information Technology Division,
has agreed to participate in an industry-wide disaster recovery test involving U.S. futures exchanges, clearing houses, FCMs,
and back office providers. This test is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 9, 2004.
The FIA IT Division hosted meetings in New York and Chicago in April with U.S. exchanges and clearing organizations, firms
and key service providers to discuss interest in conducting an industry-wide test. The response was overwhelmingly in support
of such a test and it was generally agreed that the first one should be conducted this fall.
CME would like your firm to participate in this test to ensure as comprehensive an exercise as possible. The FIA will be scheduling
meetings in New York and Chicago to discuss the test and solicit feedback from participants. We hope that you or a representative
of your firm will participate and learn firsthand how the testing will be conducted. In addition, the FIA will establish an
industry-wide test site on its Web site which will be updated as plans progress.
John Rapa, Tellefsen Consulting Group, and chairman of the FIA IT Division subcommittee on DR/BCP, has agreed to chair the
Industry-wide DR Test Committee.
If your firm is a member of more than one of the U.S. futures exchanges or clearing houses, you or your counterparts may receive
a similar notification from other exchanges or clearing organizations, since this is an industry-wide testing initiative.
To help us understand your DR/BCP, please take a moment to fill out the attached information and fax your response to the
CME Audit Department at 312-930-3242. If you have any questions, please contact Karl Weinberg at 312-648-3772.
We look forward to working with you on this important industry test.
