Subject System Update #35 Disconnection Issues on 9-5-02

CAUSE: On September 5, 2002, at approximately 1:36 AM CT, a network file server experienced a hardware failure resulting in a reconnection to a back-up server. At approximately 2:00 AM CT all Fix 2.3 and Fix Express processes were recycled. Order flow, on some connections remained intermittently impacted and thus necessitated the rebooting of all primary boxes at approximately 5:30 AM CT. At this time, all connections were severed in order to restore full service. All services were confirmed fully operational by 7:30 AM CT.

RESPONSE: Emergency messages were sent, with updates when appropriate. Senior staff was notified and operational staff began the process of restoring service to all users. Assistance was given to the remaining users who experienced issues with their reconnection. GCC staff assisted registered contacts with order status and cancellation requests.

RESOLUTION: Developmental specialists will investigate this issue to determine the exact nature of its cause and will then make a recommendation to senior staff on a permanent solution.
