Subject System Update # 10 - Improving ORAPI Connection Time

As most of you are already aware, CME has two servers for handling Order Routing API (ORAPI) orders. These two servers, Moby and Orca, have ORAPI traffic split across them, with one of the servers acting as your primary server. If your firm�s connection to its primary ORAPI server is lost, a connection can be made to the other server.

To improve your firm�s connection up time in the event of a lost connection, we strongly encourage you to put programming in place to automate the switching between the primary and secondary servers. The following benefits can be obtained through automating this process:

  • Greater speed in reconnecting
  • Reduces the number of customer orders that are delayed because of downtime
  • Frees an individual from manually monitoring the connection
