| CAUSE: On Sunday, January 28, 2001 at 16:35 CST a Hardware failure on the GLOBEX matching engine occurred. Due to the failure, users were not able to enter, modify, or cancel orders. RESPONSE: An emergency voice mail was placed on the main GLOBEX2 phone line & a SPI mail (news) was sent explaining the current outage, with updates when applicable. Senior staff was notified, and operational staff began bringing the hardware back on-line. At 19:00 CST, the hardware and system was fully functional, and the markets were placed into a Pre-Opening state for a 19:30 CST Opening. RESOLUTION: The hardware manufacturer will be brought in to analyze this failure and give staff a recommendation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
