Expansion of Designated Closing Period for Wheat Futures

Effective Monday, November 6, 2006, the time period of the closing range for Wheat futures traded in open auction will be expanded to the last 60 seconds of trading.  Currently, the designated closing period for Wheat futures is the last 30 seconds of trading.   

The closing periods for CBOT’s agricultural futures are as follows:

            Wheat, Corn, Soybeans, Rice                           Last 60 seconds of trading
            South American Soybeans,
            mini-sized agricultural products
            and Ethanol

            Soybean Meal, Soybean Oil, Oats                    Call Market Close

For those futures products with corresponding options, the options share the same closing period.  The time bracket symbol to be used for all trades executed during the closing period is “%”. 

In accordance with Regulation 332.02, any contract’s closing period can be expanded by up to one minute on a particular trade date at the discretion of the Pit Committee to address unique market conditions.  Any such expansion of the closing period must be communicated to the market at least five minutes prior to the beginning of the revised close for that date.
