Highlights
The day's featured event is the monthly consumer price index report due at 8:30 am ET. Expectations call for September CPI up 0.6 percent on the month and 3.7 percent on year. That largely reflects the view that motor fuel prices were up about 10 percent on the month. Ex-food & energy, the Econoday consensus looks for gains of 0.2 percent and 2.5 percent. This is it for major inflation reports ahead of the Oct. 27-28 Federal Open Market Committee meeting. The latest comments from Federal Reserve officials have tended to solidify expectations for no rate move in October but 25 bps in December.
