Highlights

Major stock indexes Monday recovered from early steep losses but still ended mostly weaker Tuesday with the selloff that has hit AI shares continuing. The Dow Jones industrial average firmed 0.2 percent while the S&P 500 eased 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq was down 1.0 percent. Bond yields and WTI crude oil futures declined while the dollar was mixed but mostly lower versus major currencies.

Continuing profit-taking in the highly-valued AI space knocked technology down in early going but that action faded later in the day. Mixed signals on US-Iran conflict kept markets on edge. The market was buoyed by President Trump's latest positive spin on propects for a tentative peace settlement but stocks were hurt by his statement that the US would retaliate for Iran shooting down a US helicopter in near the Strait of Hormuz.
